Brushy Creek near the Round Rock

We went back again so we could take pics with the wagon ruts for Instagram challenge. (We won a free froyo.) Historically, this is where cattle herders crossed the creek on their way from the Rio Grande to the cattle markets in Kansas. You can see the wagon ruts, dating back to the 19th century, carved into the limestone creek bed.

Shirley McDonald Park

We were going to feed the ducks, but the sign said not to give them bread. So we ate the bread instead, lol.

We saw several turtles hanging out on the floating doghouse in the background.
Lots of ducks!
Liz named this guy Bill. He walked right up to her and talked her ear off. She made up a life story for him.

We found a geocache here.
When we get more rain, this normally would be a creek. It was kind of cool to see what it looks like when it's empty. I took a picture because I thought it was interesting to see the horizontal roots and how far they extend.

Dinosaur Tracks

Today we drove to Leander and went on a little hike to see a set of dinosaur tracks preserved in limestone in the San Gabriel River.

The tracks were possibly made by an acrocanthosaurus.

Our Week (06/28 - 07/04)

We visited a historic cemetery in Round Rock and saw where the famous outlaw Sam Bass was buried. He has a street named after him too, but we never knew his story before. Apparently he was a famous stagecoach and train robber. In his biggest heist, his gang stole $60,000 in gold (more than $1.4 million today) from a train in San Francisco. He died on his 27th birthday after a gunfight with the Texas Rangers in Round Rock. A deputy sheriff named A. W. Grimes was also killed, and he has a street named after him too.
