Hanging Out with the Bakers (Cont'd)

While Scott was at work on Monday, the rest of us hiked Mount Bonnell:

Saw the peacocks at Mayfield Park:

Fun Fact: Not only did Owen fall in the pond, he also got too close to one of the peacocks and got pecked on the head. We had to leave abruptly so that Grandma Becca could patch him up. (Lucky she's a nurse!)

After the peacocks we sampled some of the yummy doughnuts at Gordoughs:

And then later in the day we played at Scott Mentzer Pool:

Our Week

We celebrated Cow Appreciation Day at Chick-Fil-A with some friends:
The Bakers came for a visit:
Photo credit for this one goes to Owen ;)
While Emily and Matt went to seminary inservice, Scott and Becca and all the kids checked out Georgetown's Blue Hole:

Emily and Becca went to Rudy's, and later that evening Scott and the boys went to Waffle House:
Yummy brisket!

Day 5 - Houston

We stayed the night with my old roommate, Jamie Palmer, in Houston. This was our second time visiting Jamie in the past year. The kids always love it because she and her roommate have so many fun games and movies and books.
The Houston Temple. It is newly reopened after some flooding that happened last fall with Hurricane Harvey. This makes the third temple we saw on this trip, and the sixteenth temple we have visited as a family:

Day 4 - Baton Rouge

Our first stop of the day was the Baton Rouge Temple, which is being renovated. I was surprised to see the extent of the renovation, since it was only dedicated in 2000. It's not that old, but it looks like they're pretty much starting from scratch. (I think someone told us there was a mold problem.)

Next we visited LSU and saw "Death Valley" (Tiger Stadium) and the Mike the Tiger Habitat:

Then we took a quick self-guided tour of the Old State Capitol, built around 1850. It looks like a castle from the outside and is equally beautiful on the inside:

Stained glass dome

This statue was around the backside of the building.
Then we went to the new State Capitol, built in the 1930s. We saw the rooms where both houses of Congress meet, and then we went up to the 27th floor, where we got a great view of the city:

Our last stop in Baton Rouge was Tony's Seafood for lunch. We got to see the employees hand grab some fresh catfish:
