Lizzie's Favorite Things

This video isn't what I imagined it would be, but it has it's funny moments. Be forewarned; it's on the long side:

Some of Lizzie's (fairly) recent masterpieces

This is from a month or two ago... Lizzie's birthday list. Whenever she'd tell me something that she wanted for her birthday, I told her to go put it on her list.

This one's my favorite... Lizzie's "schedule," complete with check boxes for when each task is completed. (Can you tell that Mommy is big into to do lists?)

This is a song that Lizzie wrote for her grandma "with the piano." See all the music notes, staffs, rests, clefs, etc.?

And while I was taking pictures of Lizzie artwork, Heidi said, "Mom, take a picture of me!"

Surprise!

This little guy surprised me this morning by climbing onto the kitchen table. (I didn't know he could do that.) It's a little scary, since our kitchen table isn't particularly sturdy. Looks like it's time to pull out the baby gates!

And here he is... Scavenging through his sisters' leftovers. So proud of himself.

Fort Meigs - Life in Early Ohio

We went to Fort Meigs this morning. It's a fort in neighboring Perrysburg that played a key role in the War of 1812:
In 1813, Fort Meigs became the focal point of the War of 1812. Here, the British suffered their first setback of the Northwest Campaign when a detachment of American troops stood against the combined forces of British and Canadian soldiers and Tecumseh's warriors.
They had a lot of re-enactors there this weekend, so we thought it would be a good time to go check it out. :)
Owen is just too cute in this picture.

One of the blockhouses. This is the first floor, where they shot cannons from they window.

This is the second floor of the same blockhouse. Twenty soldiers would occupy this room and shoot their rifles out the windows.

You can see the Maumee River in the background.

Mommy's first "selfie."

Lizzie got to throw tomahawks.

This guy was tuckered out afterward!

Silly Lizzie

There are a lot of cemeteries around Toledo. The other day, we drove past a cemetery and Lizzie asked, "What's that?" I tried to give a simple explanation on the fly: "When we die, our spirits go to heaven and our bodies are buried in the cemetery." We talked a little about Jesus and how he was resurrected, and that because he was resurrected we can someday be resurrected too. Anyway, today we drove past the cemetery again, and Lizzie said: "Jesus was buried in a cemetery." "Yep," I said, "and after three days he lived again." Confused, Lizzie asked, "Jesus lives in Michigan?" (We had a discussion earlier that day about how Michael and Daniel live in Michigan, and to her I guess "lived again" sounded an awful lot like "Michigan.") :)

Last night we were sitting in a chair together and reading scriptures. I had just gotten home from my temple recommend interview and still had a dress on. Lizzie looked at my stomach and asked: "Mommy, why is your tummy so big? Are you going to have a baby?" Nope, I'm not! But I guess I need to lay off on the sweets and stop wearing that dress. (Ha ha.)

Ice Cream Fiend

We ate ice cream tonight, in honor of Michael's birthday. I tried to capture Owen "hulking out," but he didn't do it this time. It's super funny when he clenches his fists and grunts impatiently. :) Anyway, this video is a little on the long side. Sorry.

Fishing, Take 2

The fish weren't biting, so the kids lost interest quickly.

Goin' Campin'

Yesterday we loaded up the van and headed to Michigan.
(Owen outgrew his other car seat, so we switched to a forward-facing seat this week.)
