Grandma and Grandpa Baker gave us the best birthday surprise ever by showing up on Scott's birthday and hanging out with us for about 8 hours. We picked the kids up from school:

And surprised Dad after work with dinner from Rudy's BBQ, cake and ice cream, and a good visit:
Bluebonnet season! Bluebonnets are the state flower, and this time of year they're everywhere. It's a thing for locals to snap a bluebonnet picture each spring. We saw especially beautiful wildflowers on our trip to Corpus, but didn't get any pictures. These ones were taken in the Austin area:
Our first stop was lunch at Whataburger on the Bay. The first Whataburger was in Corpus Christi in 1950. This particular Whataburger is two stories tall and overlooks Corpus Christi Bay:
Next we went for a stroll along the Downtown Seawall. We got to see a lot of cool birds and boats:
Along the seawall was a Selena memorial. She was a famous Tejano singer from Corpus.
Emily remembers learning about her in high school Spanish class.
With our good pal, Capitan Blas Maria de la Garza Falcon (Gotta love those Spanish names!)
See the birds perched on the posts?
Fishermen and giant pelicans
Next we played on North Beach, right outside our AirBNB condo:
Sand angels

The next morning we did a beach walk. We had fun watching the boats come in. And the kids picked some flowers:
Darn it! We didn't see any jelly fish.
The only shark we saw on our trip.
There were lots and lots of seagulls
Then we went to Whitecap Beach on Padre Island. The waves were bigger, and the sand was really soft. It was very beautiful:
Picnicking out of the back of the van
Flying kites
Shell collecting
We also rode the Port Aransas Ferry, but didn't get any pictures. Then we had Tex-Mex at Chuy's:
The next morning we watched the sunrise from our balcony...
